Because of its role in ensuring the right amount of power gets to the wheels, an unrepaired transmission system that is malfunctioning needs to be repaired as soon as possible for your machinery to function.
Otherwise, you will find yourself unable to reverse, drive uphill, or even reach high speeds. Transmission systems can have a lot of parts. An automatic transmission system, for example, has:
PumpThe pump pumps transmission fluid into the system. It also pressurizes it
Valve BodyThe pressure of transmission fluid determines the opening and closing of valves. Valves funnel transmission fluid to clutches and bands, greatly easing their operation.
Clutches & BandsThe loosening and tightening of clutches and bands is important in gear operations. Engagement and disengagement would be a lot harder without them.
Torque ConverterThe torque converter is the clutch of an automatic transmission gearbox. Power from the engine doesn’t directly rotate the wheels.
If that were the case, every time the engine was turned on, a vehicle would start moving. But that isn’t what happens. You can start the engine and keep it running while the vehicle is completely stationary. This is because this power has to go through the transmission system. The torque converter is the “switch” that connects the engine to the wheels. If it malfunctions, you’re in trouble. Either your vehicle starts rolling down the road the minute you start the engine or it completely fails to move even when the engine is running. None of these situations is desirable. |
